This is a Place for Fun, Constructive Discussion

Consider this forum the lounge of our gaming establishment, so please treat it and all members with respect. This is a place to share skills, make friends and talk shop. Everyone should feel welcome.

There are no hard and fast rules, but we have the following guidelines to help keep conversations on course.

Improve the Discussion

We ask contributors to add constructively to discussions, no matter how small the way. If you feel you might be posting in a knee-jerk (or just jerk) kind of way, take a second and consider how to rephrase what you want to say into something constructive for the overall thread.

The topics discussed on this forum matter to us and to others who share our passion for gaming, so we want to underline how important it is to be respectful—even if you disagree with what someone says. It’s okay to disagree, but not okay to use this as an opportunity to get nasty.

And another thing to help improve discussions: Before starting a new thread, spend time browsing topics to see what’s already out there. It’s better to jump into existing threads. You’ll have a better chance of connecting with others and reaching the community.

Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Name-calling
  • Ad hominem attacks
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk contradiction

Instead, provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.

Your Participation Counts

Help us nurture the future of this community by engaging in discussions that make this forum an interesting and fun place to be. Existing forum threads set the tone for every new arrival, so we ask that you participate in ways that make this a place people want to visit regularly.

Discourse provides tools that enable the Bodog community to identify the best (and worst) contributions, bookmarks, likes, flags, replies, edits, and more. You can use these tools to improve your own experience.

If You See a Problem, Flag It

Moderators are responsible for maintaining forum standards. You can help them by flagging problematic behavior you come across.

If you see bad behavior, don’t reply. This only encourages more bad behavior, consumes your energy, and gives anyone looking to troll exactly what they wanted. Instead of engaging, just flag it. If enough people flag it, action will be taken, either automatically or by moderator intervention.

To maintain community standards, moderators reserve the right to remove content and suspend users at their discretion. Moderators do not preview new posts, and therefore cannot be considered responsible for content posted by the community.

Always Be Civil

Nothing undermines a worthy conversation like rudeness or anger, so let’s keep the temperature down. Instead:

  • Be decent. Don’t post anything that could reasonably be considered offensive, abusive, or hate speech.
  • Keep it covered. Don’t post anything obscene or sexually explicit.
  • No low-blows. Don’t harass anyone, impersonate others, or expose their private information.

And please, don’t post spam or hijack forums for your own purposes. This is not the place for marketing pitches and online grifting.

And just an FYI: Search engines index the discussions on public forums like the ones here on Bodog.eu. So as a golden rule, keep language, links, and images closer to primetime TV standards if you can.

Keep It Tidy

A bit of effort to put things in the right place goes a long way.

  • Try not to start a topic in the wrong category.
  • Don’t cross-post the same thing in multiple topics.
  • Don’t reply using tons of posts with little or no content.
  • Don’t derail a thread by changing its topic midstream.
  • There’s no need to sign your posts — every post has your profile information attached to it.

And rather than posting “+1” or “Agreed”, use the Like button. Rather than taking an existing topic on a tangent, use Reply as a Linked Topic.

Post Only Your Own Stuff

Don’t post anything that belongs to someone else without their permission. Furthermore, you are not allowed to post descriptions of, links to, or methods for stealing someone’s intellectual property (software, video, audio, images), or for breaking any other law.

Powered by You

This site is operated by your friendly local staff and by you, the community. If you have any further questions or comments about how things should work here, open a new topic in the site feedback category and let’s open it up to the community for discussion. But if there’s a critical or urgent issue that can’t be handled through a meta topic or flag, contact us on the staff page.
